Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

we believe that access to clean water and proper sanitation is a human right—a cornerstone for health, dignity, and economic empowerment. Since 2012, we have been at the forefront of transforming lives across Siaya County through holistic, community-driven Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives.

What WASH Is All About

The WASH Programme was launched to tackle the pressing challenge of waterborne diseases, poor hygiene, and limited access to clean water in vulnerable rural communities. By integrating clean water supply systems, improved sanitation infrastructure, and targeted hygiene education, we aim to create sustainable and dignified living conditions, especially for women, children, and people living with HIV.

Through partnerships with stakeholders like Dorcas Aid International, The County government of Siaya and Maji Milele thanks to the strength of our Christian values and dedicated team, we have rolled out WASH projects that do more than provide infrastructure—they build resilient, healthy communities equipped to thrive.

Impact Achieved So Far

The impact of our WASH programme is both broad and deep:

  • 141,358 individuals now have access to clean and safe water.

  • 19 shallow wells have been drilled and constructed across target areas.

  • 20 natural springs have been protected to preserve reliable water sources.

  • 137 vulnerable households and 21 schools have been equipped with large water tanks, ensuring constant access to safe water.

  • 72,000+ people now benefit from prepaid communal water connections—making water access fair, transparent, and inclusive.

  • Over 92,000 people now enjoy improved sanitation facilities.

  • 5,746 new sanitation units have been constructed through community engagement and sanitation marketing.

  • The initiative has created 225 direct jobs, empowering local youth and women through skilled and semi-skilled employment in WASH infrastructure.

Our Vision for the Future

We are committed to scaling and deepening our WASH impact. Our goals for the next phase include:

  • Expanding access to clean water through more wells, springs, and water kiosks, especially in water-stressed communities.

  • Advancing climate-resilient WASH infrastructure, including rainwater harvesting systems and solar-powered pumps.

  • Integrating biogas and eco-sanitation solutions to convert animal and human waste into clean cooking energy—reducing deforestation and household fuel costs.

  • Strengthening school-based WASH programs to improve hygiene, reduce absenteeism, and create safe learning environments, especially for girls.

  • Promoting community-led sanitation behavior change through intensified hygiene campaigns, local champions, and faith-based engagement.

  • Fostering long-term sustainability through capacity building of local artisans, WASH committees, and youth groups.
