Our Journey
Guided by the vision to bring out the best in every life we touch, North Gem Community Development Program was launched to work in collaboration with other like-minded stakeholders to facilitate processes that empower people to actively participate in their own sustainable development. Showing the love that Jesus Christ towards his disciples, our motto is to “wash the feet of God’s people”.
We commenced our operations by officially launching our first project, the HIV/AIDS Project with the objective of reducing the prevalence and spread of HIV/AIDS within the community through several interventions including awareness, stigma reduction, economic empowerment, psycho-social support, and through efforts to lobby local authorities and advocate for PLWHAs, including orphans and vulnerable persons.
We launched the WASH project with the view to improve access to safe and sustainable clean water, improve sanitation, improved hygiene practices through the community led total sanitation approach and to enhance livelihoods through improved environmental care and natural resource management.
The objective of reducing the prevalence and spread of HIV/AIDS within the community would have to involve the youth at both the level of increased awareness and through their empowerment. The SAN project was launched to engage the youth through various initiatives including peer education and reproductive health awareness strategies; and empowerment programs targeted at increasing their income levels. The project also aimed at creating deeper access to youth-friendly health services
Having achieved its objectives the Stop AIDS Now project is closed out
The ICD project was launched with the view of harnessing the collective objectives and channeling the gains made across the Program’s various projects in a manner that would eventually integrate them into a single project with deeper impact and stronger emphasis on the outlying objectives that had yet to be achieved. In addition, the project features monitoring and evaluation to determine the gains of the Program and includes themes of disaster risk reduction and child sponsorship.
This project was introduced as a pilot to be implemented over the course of one year and with the objective of increasing support to the community to eradicate the nuisance of jiggers.
Having achieved its objectives the HIV/AIDS project is closed out with elements of the project incorporated into the ICDP project.
